More tips for lite Christmas cakes

Here are some tips to follow to cook healthy Christmas cakes that you can enjoy, and not worry about adding too many calories to your daily calorie intake. As whole-wheat flour is a more healthy flour option, replace all or at least some of your flour with it.

It is possible to reduce the fat content of your Christmas cake to make it healthier by replacing butter with a reduced fat. Try a reduced fat olive oil based spread that is not only lite, but is also much lower in saturated fats when compared to butter.

Sugar is a main ingredient for Christmas cakes; however you can reduce your sugar and calories by replacing sugar with fruit puree. Preferable fruit purees are apple, prunes and apricot fruit puree that is made by stewing the fruit in a bit of water till tender and then blended to a paste. Replace equal volumes of sugar with fruit puree in your Christmas cake recipe.

Use fruit puree instead of fat

Besides replacing sugar, this fruit puree can be used for replacing half the sugar and fat content of the cake. You will find that the resulting cake is very moist and soft, and has a fruity flavor.

Besides being healthy, healthy cake recipes are comparatively quicker to mix together and bake. The most you may need to mix a cake will be ten minutes, which is much faster than manufactured cakes. And as these cakes tend to disappear fast, it is better to cut them into squares so that they last longer.
